Care Assistant - Healthcare Assistant

At Familiehulp's training centres, job seekers can take the free ‏training programme to become a care assistant - healthcare assistant.

Who is the training programme for?

  • you are at least 18 years old
  • you are registered as a job seeker with the VDAB
  • you are medically fit to take the programme
  • you have the relevant basic skills which we will assess during an introductory interview

You can apply for an exemption for one or several training modules. To do so, you must meet one of the following conditions (and provide supporting documents):

  • you have already taken a training programme in the area of care which you completed in full or in part without obtaining a certificate or qualification
  • you have a relevant training certificate
  • you have work experience in the care sector

Training programme structure

The programme is made up of several modules. There are two possible pathways: the regular pathway and the pathway with additional dutch language support.

Modular training programme Regular pathway 

  • duration: 13 months 
  • tuition days per week: 4 days
    You have classes from 08:30 - 16:30
  • language level required: 2.4 (or 2.3 in Brussels) 
    = you speak and write fluently in Dutch
  • location: Brussels, Hasselt, Veurne, Antwerp, Ghent and Roeselare

Modular training programme with extra help with Dutch

  • duration: 15 months 
  • tuition days per week: 4.5 days
    You have classes from 08:30 - 16:30
  • language level: 2.1 
    = entry level for Dutch
  • location: Aalst and Vilvoorde
